As you already may be aware you can’t receive money through Paypal in Zambia. While you can send and purchase international items through PayPal you can not receive money in a similar manner.
PayPal says most of the financial institutions in Africa have not met some requirements hence this is how the problem has persisted. The issue of not receiving money is not only in Zambia but affects a number of African countries.
Including Zambia, the other countries that cannot receive money through PayPal are Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Senegal, Seychelles, and South Africa.
So when you want to receive the money you have to use a friend’s PayPal resident in a country where Paypal receipts are accepted and then the friend will commit to sending a bank transfer. The bank fees and charges I can assure you are not pretty.
Last I checked I received 778 Kwacha (30 euros) from Israel and the bank charges staggered to more than 150 Kwacha (6 euros). I felt ripped off by the bank for such huge charges for little money I toiled for working online.
However, hope is here through a Nigerian Startup Flutterwave. Flutterwave has been allowing merchants to accept payments from customers in Zambia using their mobile money wallets. Flutterwave partnered with Paypal to help up to 50 African countries and those outside the continent that cannot receive money through PayPal.
Once you create an account at Flutterwave (referal link here) you will be able to link your bank account with the Flutterwave portal. Flutterwave will create a wallet and card that is enabled to receive and send money through PayPal.
Also you can setup to accept payments using Zambia mobile money. Warning. Setting ups to accept payments using Zambia mobile money will require a bit of IT knowledge and or keen to follow instructions to create the webhooks.
This is not a paid article but if you like it and would want to register with Flutterwave you can use the code RV751414 or referral link here that is attached to Lensesview.
